Dr. Jagpal Sikand is a licensed clinical psychologist with significant experience and accomplishments in his professional practice. His academic accomplishments include a Master of Science in Education, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Sikand’s professional certifications include: Licensed Psychologist certified by the State of Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners, Chartered Psychologist for the Province of Alberta, Canada, Registrant Health Service Providers in Psychology in Canada and a member of the American Psychological Association.
His professional interest are in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral problems and individual and group therapy services that are related to behavioral health problems. Specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation procedures, hypnotherapy, stress management, psychological evaluation and treatment with elderly patients and substance abuse and related behavioral/lifestyle issues. In 1956 Dr. Sikand began his journey in Kenya as a high school teacher. After moving to Canada, from 1964-1978 he taught high school in the Province of Saskatchewan and was the Assistant Professor of Psychology at Brandon University in the Province of Manitoba. In 1978-1980 he then became a Clinical Psychologist for the City of Red Deer in Alberta which provided free mental health services for all members of the community.
For the next twenty years from 1980-2000 Dr. Sikand served as the Clinical Psychologist and Program Manager of the Behavioral Health Program for the Province of Alberta. He was instrumental in the program development, organization and the supervision of the staff. While offering services to employees and family members of the Alberta Public Services, Dr. Sikand also developed seminars for adult clients for a wide range of behavioral health topics. Enthusiastic to the profession and its best practice, Dr. Sikand expanded his quest to Las Vegas, NV. From 2000-Present he has served as Clinical Psychologist for various Mental Health facilities across Southern Nevada and has now found his home at Matters of the Mind.
